Labs that work with biohazardous materials are required to have a biohazard spill kit. Biosafety recommends that a “grab-and-go” kit be assembled and inspected regularly to ensure all components are available, not expired and easily accessible by all lab personnel.

PPE
Include gloves, eye (and face) protection, and lab coats; respiratory protection, shoe covers and other PPE may be warranted for the agent(s) you are using
BRUSH/DUSTPAN, TONGS OR FORCEPS
For picking up items such as broken glass and reaching over the spill area
ABSORBENT PAPER TOWELS
To contain and clean up the spill; other appropriate absorbent materials may be used (contact Biosafety for more information)
